Indian 2W makers to oppose immediate RDE norms under proposed BS7 regime

The Indian two-wheeler industry, represented by SIAM, plans to resist the immediate implementation of on-road Real Driving Emissions (RDE) testing as part of the proposed BS7 norms, expected from 2027. Manufacturers have raised concerns about the weight and accuracy of the required portable measurement equipment (PEMS), which they argue can itself increase emissions on smaller vehicles. The industry is proposing that RDE for two-wheelers be introduced in a later phase of the BS7 rollout.
