IMD forecasts below-normal September monsoon amid El Nino impact

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has projected that rainfall in September will be below normal, citing the impact of the prevailing El Nino conditions. A deficient end to the monsoon season could pose risks to the sowing of winter crops and impact reservoir levels. This follows a Q1FY27 agricultural sector contraction of 2.4%.
