Trade — India-Tibet barter trade to resume August 1 after seven-year hiatus

The traditional barter trade between Indian and Tibetan traders through the Lipulekh Pass in Uttarakhand is set to resume on August 1. The cross-border trade, which involves exchanging goods like jaggery and cosmetics for wool and pashmina, was suspended in 2019 following the COVID-19 pandemic. Officials confirmed that Chinese authorities have granted permission for Indian traders to enter the market in Purang, Tibet.
