Indian highway contract awards plummet 70% YoY in first two months of FY27

India's highway construction sector has started fiscal 2027 on a slow note, with contract awards falling 70% year-over-year during April and May. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) awarded just 326 km of projects in the period. This slow pace raises concerns about achieving the full-year target of awarding 13,298 km of highway projects.
