Coal India unit halts mining in Dhanbad on safety directive

Bharat Coking Coal Ltd (BCCL), a subsidiary of Coal India, has ceased all mining and blasting operations at its New Akashkinaree Colliery in Dhanbad, Jharkhand. The stoppage follows a directive from the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), which withdrew operational permissions effective August 17, 2026, due to concerns over land subsidence.
