The Indian government has directed sugar dealers not to hold stock for more than 30 days and has imposed a stock limit of 4,000 quintals, effective August 1. The measure, which will be in force until November 30, is aimed at controlling sweetener prices amid forecasts of a deficit monsoon. The government has already banned sugar exports to ensure domestic availability.
