India launches challenge with ₹12.5 Cr funding pool for innovative butanol production

The Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas has launched the "MC²+ Grand Butanol Challenge" to foster innovation in advanced biofuels. The program offers a combined funding pool of up to ₹12.5 crore (₹7.5 crore grant, ₹5 crore prize) for new fermentation or catalytic-based butanol production methods. The deadline for applications is August 15, 2026, with winners also gaining mentorship and commercialisation support.
