Pharma — India to overhaul PLI scheme for bulk drugs, focus on R&D and infrastructure

The Indian government is planning a significant revamp of its production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for bulk drugs to reduce import dependency, particularly on China. The revised policy will shift from pure production incentives to a more comprehensive approach, including grants for technology development, R&D, and infrastructure support. The original scheme, launched in 2021, has already resulted in domestic manufacturing capacity for 29 key starting materials (KSMs) and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs).
