IRAN — Iran strikes kill US troops in Jordan, escalating conflict

Iranian missile and drone attacks on the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan killed two U.S. servicemembers and left a third presumed dead, marking the first American combat fatalities since a ceasefire was abandoned in April. Tehran also targeted King Faisal Air Base and another Jordanian airfield, damaging several U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopters. The strikes are seen as an effort to punish Jordan for its cooperation with Washington and deter further U.S. military action in the region.
